The SCA Obbola cellulose and paper plant in Northern Sweden has implemented a digital twin that integrates the plant’s information contained in three different systems: the 3D model of the plant, its SAP production management system and its Sitebase plant database.
Since 2016, the company has used the CADMATIC eShare information management system as the platform on which the digital twin has been created.
The 3D model of the plant is exceptionally large and contains more than 100 kilometers of pipeline, 3000 pipelines, 6000 vents, 700 instruments, and more than 2000 devices. With the eShare integration, all models, drawings, diagrams and databases can be accessed and searched for in one place.
"Earlier we used special systems to publish process and P&IDs on our intranet. Nowadays they are not needed, since we search for the documents in eShare and inspect them there. Even the 3D model information can be accessed through eShare,” says Peter Brunesson SCA Obbola IT manager.
SCA Obbola has about 100 eShare users, including maintenance, project and production personnel, and process engineers.
Through eShare, process diagrams published in the diagram design module are immediately available for personnel. The models that are published daily in the 3D design program are freshly available for inspection through eShare, as well as isometric drawings and piping and instrumentation diagrams. It also provides easy access to the plant’s existing overview drawings of older parts of the system created before the 3D model existed.
